Thanks for Mom

She worries and prays for my well-being
And heaven knows that I'll be needing
The support from my mom as I slowly grow up
But in her eyes I'm speeding, I'm chugging the cup
She'll blink and I'm gone and I'm studying abroad
I'll be far away and she'll wait for so long
Until Christmas and New Years until I'll be home
And my mom, she's a brave one, the best that I've known
And I can't help but thank you for all that you've done
You know I've really enjoyed being your son

She cares and she feeds
She taught them to read
She'll drive them around
Until they're half-way teens
She can't help but love
And God gave her to us
It's hard to say goodbye
To the one who brought us into this life

There's a picture in her room of us in the fall
And she's holding me tight thinking nothing at all
But her love for her son and I so feel it too
And I thanked God for mom and then I grew
And I half to admit there were times in my life
When I wanted to run and I wanted to hide
But she was always accepting her prodigal son
And I'd rather open up the front door to no one

She cares and she feeds
She taught them to read
She'll drive them around
Until they're half-way teens
She can't help but love
And God gave her to us
It's hard to say goodbye
To the one who brought us into this life

But I won't say goodbye yet, I still got a while
You try to make me leave, ha I'll put you on trial
Don't take me away, I won't leave this place
Till I find a good school and... get it payed
In the mean time I'll enjoy just what I've got here
And I'll take time to listen, take time to fear
I'll take time to learn and grow in the Lord
My mom and my dad, they teach me the Word
I'm so thankful for parents who care enough about me
To take me home from school and teach me what I can't read
From textbooks and teachers, how to be a good man
Living and building my life, not upon sand
But finding the rock, and living upon it
Thank you for these people, this is my sonnet
I write to her because we celebrate
This day that you've given, when she was made
But this song speaks for everyday, not just today
Thanks for my mom

She cares and she feeds
She taught them to read
She'll drive them around
Until they're half-way teens
She can't help but love
And God gave her to us
It's hard to say goodbye
To the one who brought us into this life

She cares and she feeds
She taught them to read
She'll drive them around
Until they're half-way teens
She can't help but love
And God gave her to us
I won't say goodbye
To the one who brought us into this life
