~The Anchors, Chapter 1: An Exposition~

The day had come. They were a family because the ones that they had left. It was only them. They fought for eachother, and survived together. They didn't know what to do when it was over or if it ever would be, but they kept fighting. They were a team. They could not be beaten. It all started on the day of the Infection.

Nick woke up to screaming. With blurry vision at first, and a clock that said 4:36 on it, he already knew what day it was. The sounds could only mean one thing. He had been waiting for this day for a long, long time. He was glad he fell off the side of his bed while he was sleeping because it hid him from... them. They knew he was there, but after they turned, they just went for noise. Nick saw torn bed sheets and blood all over the one adjacent to his. Maybe she was still alive, but he needed to get out alive first to find out. The door to his apartment was ripped off, so we walked out quietly. He had his knife from his bedside but the guns were gone. Maybe someone made it out. He ran down the hallway without a peep. He peeked around the corner to make sure it was clear. So far, so good. He ran and got to the stairs. The door creaked as he opened it and he heard the first one. It was running up the stairway fast. He opened the door all the way and ran up half a story. He watched as it ran to the slow closing door making a very audible creak. When it got out of the doorway, Nick made a run for it. Down the stairs. He typed in the password and walked out to the open air. He saw his dad with the now weaponized truck. He'd gotten to work. He looked to his left and saw the south side of town on flames. He hopped in the truck and his dad greeted him blandly. They drove north. It was the plan. They were just executing it now. When they reached Briarcrest, they hopped out and ran into the house. It was a two story house with a line of cars outside. The brick was dark purple and it looked spooky. He knocked with the knocker on the front door and was relieved when Joseph quickly opened the door with Minte and Steven behind him. "Welcome." he said.

David and Nick walked in to a packed house. Kristi and Cindetta were running frantically trying to meet everyone's needs. People were panicking, and Steven called the guys upstairs. They all huddled in the study. Nick, Steven, Joseph, Minte, Charlton, Nick C, Alex, Ryan, Tray, Jack, Justice, Thomas, Cole, and Avery. That was the team. 14 guys in all. Step 2 of the plan was about to commence. It was already established. Nick was to lead the team. Steven was the master of weapons. Joseph had strategy and all the cool gear. Minte was a melee lord. Charlton was a powerhouse. Nick C was the silent warrior. Alex was the brains and the mechanic. Ryan and Tray scared off foes. Jack drove the team. Justice was a trained assassin. Thomas had hidden powers... Cole and Avery were the stunt masters and were basically the dummies for all the expiriments the team had to try. This team had one job and one job only and that was to find the way to stop the Apocolypse.

While the parents and children stayed in safe houses around the town, the team was to find the cure or the end to this time. The team had thought about this situation so much, that it was almost natural to break from the huddel and run outside to the church vans that Cindetta had. A twelve passenger van would have plenty of room for all of them, granted Cole and Avery riding on the top. The trailer had all the weapons. This was going to be the best retreat yet. They packed in. Jack driving and Alex being shotgun. Literally. Nick, Joseph and Steven sat on the next row and planned their route. First they would head to the city to find all the cool stuff. On clearence. Because all the stores were destroyed.

After going to Walmart, Chevy, Car Toys, the Police Station, and a few gun stores, the team had almost everything they needed. They stopped at anyone's house they needed to for any extra items they needed , since they had more cars now. The two hunting dogs, Ajax and Tank, rode in the armored Tahoe with Alex driving Joseph, Minte, Steven, Justice, and Nick. Most everyone else was still in the van. Except for Nick C. He found a rocket unicycle and wanted to try out the machine guns Alex attached to it. They drove the highway all the way to downtown Dallas, where they saw the first hoard. But they were ready. They had a plan. And they had some cool toys. The Anchors were ready to kick some zombie butt.
