~The Sea Flier, Chapter Six~

"Hey Beanie!" somebody shouted, "You ready for that tour yet?"
Peter looked at where the sound was coming from and he saw Slightly approaching him and Curly.
"Yeah, alright." Peter responded quietly. He was still deep in thought about his conversation with Curly about the sailors and his sudden inclination to be one.
"Looks like Curly's already showed you around. I told him to wait to show you the walls closer up. It's already getting dark so don't you dare wander off, dingus." Slightly said as he turned and started jogging off. Peter looked at Curly and shrugged and turned and ran to catch up with the other. People were already laying down to fall asleep, so he had to jump over a few people and weave around some hammocks. Slightly didn't slow down and he was heading straight to the giant sand walls.
Once they reached the walls, Slightly headed towards one of the towers. They headed up in a spiral staircase. Peter kept running and they got higher and higher. They finally reached the top of the wall and they looked out to the sea. It was dark enough that Peter couldn't see very much. He did hear lots, though. He heard lots of clanking and booming sounds. He watched out to the distance as a small metallic looking thing on the sea moved around. It was agile and he could tell that it was around another. Suddenly, there was an explosion on the water. Very far away, but the small object moved away from it.
"What are those things?" Peter asked.
"We call them pirates." Slightly said. Peter remembered what Curly said about pirates. They shoot some thing that makes you go crazy or something.
"We haven't seen no real pirates or anything. There's just the ships. We figure something is inside them manning them, but they are out there all the time. Mostly in the night. That's why we come in here."
"So what's the big deal about them?" Asked Peter.
"The big deal is that, occasionally, there are pirates sailing during the day time and they send a cannon ball to one of our ships and drown some sailors! Either that, or the darts start flying. You don't wanna be shot by a pirate."
"Yea, Curly told me about that. And Edwin-"
"Don't talk about Edwin." Slightly said quickly.
There was a telescope that Slightly showed to Peter to see some of the pirates better. The ships looked aluminum and they were incredibly fast.
"We tried shooting at them, capturing them, out-sailing them, and everything. Pretty much, if you see one, you're screwed. You gotta sail out of there immediately. That's why being a sailor is the toughest job in Forever Land. When their searchin' they gotta keep watch all the time. And make their maps and..."
"What are they searching for?" Asked Peter again. He wanted to find more about these sailors and the word searching really caught his attention.
"Well the way out of this mud covered place!" Slightly responded harshly.
Peter thought more. Is that the only reason I'm here? Is that the only reason anyone is here? Just to find our way out? He was starting to doubt wanting to be a sailor, but he knew he had to do it. The pirates were their main threat and the sea was their main challenge. Something about it scared him, but also made him more confident that it was his job.
He pictured the scene of the other ship exploding. He didn't know if it was another pirate or...
He looked to Slightly, but noticed that he was already heading back down. Peter took one more look towards the sea and the air from that high up gave him lots of energy. He ran after Slightly with a thousand more questions in his head.
"Hey, wait up!" He called. I'm gonna sail. Peter thought.
